A little planning. A great day.
Crab Island: captain or self-drive? Read the comparison →
A few clear questions make it easier to choose. The operator handles your reservation, payment and trip support.
Start with the people and the place
Confirm the passenger limit for the boat you’ll receive, including children. Choose self-drive or captained, then check the departure point and permitted cruising area.
Compare the same kind of day
Ask each operator for the same duration, date, group size and boat type. Include fuel, captain charges, taxes, delivery and optional extras in the total. A lower hourly rate may require a longer minimum rental.
Read the policies before paying
Check deposit amounts, cancellation deadlines, weather terms and arrival times. Ask what happens if conditions change or your plans do.
Check requirements
Confirm driver eligibility and required documents directly with the operator. For legal requirements, use your state’s official boating authority. Operator policies and legal requirements are not always the same.
